Abstract

Summary: Huntington's disease is a rare neurodegenerative disorder. It presents the anaesthetist with many challenges, including the risk of pulmonary aspiration and potentially prolonged action of some anaesthetic drugs. There is limited information available on anaesthesia in Huntington's disease. We report a successful anaesthetic technique used for a 67‐yr‐old man with the disease who underwent an emergency operation under general anaesthesia using a modified rapid sequence induction with rocuronium and propofol. Muscle relaxation was successfully reversed using sugammadex. We recommend the use of rocuronium and sugammadex for use in Huntington's disease to minimise the risk of pulmonary aspiration.
