Abstract

Abstract : C 2 ‐symmetric binaphthyl derivatives are atropisomers. However, their dihedral angles in the photoexcited and ground states often alter in response to external and internal chemical influences. The cover picture shows that, when ( R )‐binaphthyl ring bearing carboxylic acids with/without two flexible oxymethylene spacers are chosen as ligands, chiroptical sign in circularly polarised luminescence (CPL) of Eu(III) is definitively opposite, although chiroptical sign in circular dichroim (CD) are commonly same. Various chiral biarylated ligands bearing binding sites with/without two flexible spacers should provide a facile controlling CPL‐functioned Eu(III) and other lanthanide(III) ions.
