Abstract

Abstract: Free piston Stirling cooler has been considered as a promising candidate for cooling high-temperature superconductors due to the advantages of high efficiency, high reliability, and compact structure, Based on the thermoacoustics, a free piston Stirling cooler is designed and built in this paper, and some characterizing experimental results are also presented. In experiments, the cooler has achieved a cooling power of 350 W at 80 K, corresponding to a relative Carnot efficiency of 26.8% with an input electric power of 3.57 kW. At last, some discussions are made about improving the performance of the cooler in the future.
