- Abstract: High protein diets have been implicated in kidney injury and intestinal microflora dysbiosis that were associated with occurrence of visceral gout in both human and chickens. High protein complete feed has been increasingly used than in the past in Chinese goose industry in which outbreaks of visceral gout have been wide spreadly reported in recent years. This study aimed to investigate the effects of high protein diets on renal function and intestinal health in goslings, in order to demonstrate the link of dietary protein level and gout development. A total of 48 1-day-old Yangzhou goslings (Anser domestica) were randomly allotted to four experimental groups that were fed on diets containing CP at 16% (control), 18%, 20% and 22%, respectively. As the result, a dose dependent relationship was demonstrated between diet protein levels to morbidity of hyperuricemia. On the 15Akkermansia, Lactococcus, Butyricicoccus, Ruminococcaceae, Coriobacteriaceae, Clostridium XlVb and Bacillaceae were more abundant in cecum of healthy goslings, but pathogenic Enterococcus, Enterobacteriaceae, Bacteroides and Gammaproteobacteria were true in the hyperuricemia goslings. These results suggested that high protein diets causes growth of pathogenic microbes in gosling intestinal that could inflict damages to the intestinal wall, and alter metabolism to cause hyperuricemia, which in turn, further damages renal tubular epithelial cells and renal function.
