Abstract

Abstract: In this multicenter retrospective cohort study of over 1 million patients at 150 US hospitals, proton pump inhibitors increased the odds of a patient having hospital-onset Clostridium difficile infection as did third and fourth generation cephalosporins, carbapenems, and piperacillin/tazobactam. These findings support appropriate prescribing of acid-suppression therapy and high-risk antibiotics.
