- Abstract: Modified superfine SiC powder with excellent dispersibility was obtained with disperse black BL (DBBL) and sodium alginate (SA) as a joint modifier. High density green body was obtained via modified SiC powder. Well dispersed SiC powder was achieved by adding 1.2 wt% DBBL and 0.05 wt% SA at 90 °C after stirring for 2 h. Moreover, modified SiC slurry shows a low viscosity of 0.170 Pa·s with a volume solid content of 50 vol%. Significantly, high density SiC green body with the density of 2.62 g cm −3 was prepared by slip casting. Electron microscope and thermogravimetry were used to verify the adsorption of modifiers onto SiC powder. Interestingly, the dispersing mechanism was proposed to explain the good dispersibility of modified SiC powders according to the fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectra. The high dispersibility of modified SiC powder was achieved via interactions among SiC powder, DBBL and SA. DBBL disperses SiC powder with steric hindrance, while SA disperses powder with electrostatic repulsion. In addition, DBBL worked as the anchorage point to inhibit the exclusion of SA by hydrogen bond and chemical bond to further improve the dispersion of modified SiC.
