- This paper proposes a computationally efficient approach to simulate the seismic behavior of masonry-infilled reinforced concrete frames. The proposed framework utilizes frame elements to represent the reinforced concrete members and diagonal struts to simulate the effect of the masonry panels. The struts are systematically calibrated once the backbone curve of the infilled frame is estimated based on the anticipated failure mechanism. The experimental results from the quasistatic test of a single-story, single-bay frame and the shake-table test of a two-bay, three-story frame are used to validate the proposed framework. The comparison with the experimental data indicates that the proposed framework is considerably more accurate than the widely used guidelines in ASCE/SEI 41-06 and can capture the basic features of the structural behavior.
