Abstract

ABSTRACT: The molecular packing and electronic transport characteristics of mesogenic phthalocyanines having alkyl side chains at non-peripheral sites, 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25-octaalkylphthalocyanine and its families, are described. These compounds exhibit very high long-range drift mobility up to 1.4 cm 2 /Vs evaluated by time of flight measurement and must be a candidate of organic semiconductor for printable electronics. We also describe possibilities of application to electronic devices such as solar cells and transistors. In addition, we report on a method for fabricating a highly oriented organic semiconductor thin film utilising latent mesogenic characteristics of the molecules. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT:
