- Highlights: Pre-oxidized WSi2 -HfB2 -SiC/SiC coating can protect C/C for 110 h at 1973 K. Pre-oxidation at 1773 K is conducive to the oxidation protection of the coating. The multiphase glass layer can fill and heal cracks and pores. The self-healing glass layer has good stability and low oxygen permeability. Abstract: In order to improve the oxidation resistance of C/C composites at 1973 K, WSi2 -HfB2 -SiC coating was prepared on the surface of SiC coated C/C composites. Experiment results show that pre-oxidized WSi2 -HfB2 -SiC/SiC coating can protect C/C substrates for 110 h in the air environment at 1973 K. The oxidation products of the coating formed a multiphase glass layer on the surface of the sample, which greatly improved the oxidation resistance of the C/C sample at 1973 K. In addition, the reasons of good oxidation resistance of the coating and its oxidation protection mechanism were also analyzed in this paper.
