- Abstract: A natural wood sample and two waste wood samples were investigated by thermogravimetry and the emerging pyrolysis gases were analyzed by coupled Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (FTIR‐MS) analyzers. The mass loss curves, represented by the differential thermogravimetry signals, show different structures indicating different compositions of the initial samples. The waste wood samples were found to emit pyrolysis gases with some nitrogenous species, while in case of the natural wood samples, no nitrogen‐containing pyrolysis gases were detectable. The results can be used to extend an existing simulation model for the pyrolysis of waste wood.
