- Abstract: The micromechanics based ceramic model developed by Deshpande and Evans (2008) is incorporated in a particle-based computational code in this article. Its performance in predicting response of ceramic target under high velocity impact is investigated through some benchmark experimental observations. For a better comprehension, the numerical predictions are also compared with that of obtained via the widely used phenomenological models by Johnson and Holmquist (JH1 and JH2). The efficiency and limitations of Deshpande-Evans model in capturing various failure mechanisms of ceramic are brought out to an extent.
