- Abstract : Triarylborane‐based helical D–π–A compounds have been prepared and their photophysical properties studied. These "push–pull" compounds have pronounced ICT transitions, and exhibit high quantum yields both in solution and in the solid state (up to 1.0), significantly larger than for unsubstituted helicenes. Upon excitation by UV light, the interplanar angle between the two terminal aryl rings of helicene core contracts in the excited S1 state compared with the S0 state, which is similar to a spring under an external force.
