- Abstract: The aim of this paper was to investigate the drug release profile of gentamicin encapsulated poly(latic acid) (PLA) microspheres using various kinetic models. The encapsulation efficiency and mean particle size of gentamicin encapsulated PLA microspheres was up to 87.86 % and 39-40 µm, respectively. Gentamicin encapsulated PLA microspheres were spherical shape with smooth surface. The release data of gentamicin encapsulated PLA microspheres were calculated with zero-order, first-order, Higuchi, Hixson-Crowell and Korsmeyer-Peppas kinetic models in two types medium, namely phosphate buffer solution (PBS) and normal saline. The mechanism release of gentamicin from PLA microspheres ideally was nearly zero-order kinetic in PBS medium.
