- Abstract: Employing gas dynamic model for simulation of the transient fluid flow is critical for compression system in the design process to avoid critical piping layout, and also in operation for troubleshooting. The two-step Lax-wendroff (LW2) scheme has been usually utilized for speed and stability. This paper extends the original LW2 scheme to a new one with the improvement of bringing less dispersion and computational time. An iterative methodology is designed for the Trapezoidal integration of the Riemann variables at pipe end to improve the boundary condition calculation. The acoustic behavior of a simple geometry is computed by the two LW2 numerical schemes. Comparing the predicting results with the published experimental data validates the refinement of this new LW2 scheme. The instantaneous pulsating pressures obtained from numerical calculations are also compared with experimental measurements in the discharge system of a reciprocating compressor, with fair agreement.
