- Abstract: Wastewater in cities and industry sectors is always characterized with high-salinity. In this paper, a novel mechanical vapor recompression evaporative crystallization system was proposed to treat high-salinity wastewater and realize zero-emission. A mathematical model was developed using the software Engineering Equation Solver (EES). The effects of the flashing pressure ( P flash ), the feeding wastewater salinity ( c 0 ), the first-effect evaporation concentration ( c evap ) and the water injection ratio ( β v ) on the coefficient of performance ( COP ), compression work ( W comp ) and circulation ratio ( CR ) were studied in detail. The results show that the c evap has significant influence on the CR, especially when the c evap is close to c 0 ; the water injected MVR system obtains higher COP, and specifically, with the increase of the β v the COP improved nearly 5.0% for various operation conditions.
