Abstract

Highlights: The results of the study seem to confirm the impact of asthma on the assessment of relaxing music recordings. Asthmatic subjects gave the highest ratings to music played by an orchestra, while the lowest rating was given to relaxing music with electronic sounds. The study confirmed existence of a relationship between the functional condition of the respiratory system and music preference amongst the subjects. Piano and orchestra music enjoyed the widest appeal amongst patients with poor efficiency of the respiratory system and worse control of the disease. Subjects in a better respiratory condition and with better asthma control awarded higher scores to relaxing music with electronic sounds.
