- Abstract : Objective: To explore the effect of long-term (1year) consumption of enriched potassium salt on urinary protein and occult blood by routine urine test. Design and Method: The Participants were living in 4 nursing houses in Hebei province. The nursing houses were randomized into 2 groups: normal salt (control group) and enriched potassium salt (intervention group). The study salt was calculated and dispensed to each nursing house every 3 months. The four-time follow-up visits were carried out during 1 year. Items of the following up included questionnaire, physical examination, blood sample and spot urine collection. The data of participants who took part in baseline and 1-year urine routine test were used for statistic analysis. Results: Totally 286 participants (195 of intervention group and 91 of control) were included in this study. The results of routine urine test are presented in table below. The positive rate of urinary occult blood and protein was significantly reduced in intervention group at 1-year follow-up. The mean of age, blood pressure was no difference between 2 groups at baseline except UNa/K, intervention group was higher than control (afternoon spot urine 11.6 vs 8.5, p < 0.0001). After 1-year follow-up, SBP and UNa/K of participants were significantly different between two groups (means were 152.9 ± 22.5, 161.8 ± 27.9; 1.9 ± 1.2, 3.8 ± 2.4 for intervention and control group respectively, p < 0.0001). Conclusions: The results showed thatAbstract : Objective: To explore the effect of long-term (1year) consumption of enriched potassium salt on urinary protein and occult blood by routine urine test. Conclusions: The results showed that long-term consumption enriched potassium salt can reduce blood pressure, UNa/K and decrease the positive rate of urinary protein and occult blood, may be improve kidney function. Further pathological study for relationship of enriched potassium salt and kidney function is needed. Figure. No caption available. … (more)
