Abstract

Abstract : Objective: Hemodynamic changes will occur by aortic clamp / declamp maneuvers during cardiovascular surgery. The mechanisms of those changes were tried to be clarified by monitoring a new aortic stiffness index (cardio-renal vascular index, CRVI), in addition to conventional hemodynamic parameters. Design and Method: Using rabbits, abdominal aortic clamp / declamp maneuvers were performed through laparotomy under general anesthesia. Axillar arterial pressure (axBP) and heart-renal arterial pulse wave velocity were monitored to calculate 'CRVI' according to the theory of cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI). Results: By aortic clamping, axBP and carotid blood flow (CBF) immediately increased and CRVI decreased. After 15-minute clamp, aorta was declamped, with rapid decrease of AxBP and CBF, and increase of CRVI (Figure). Conclusions: These results suggested that the aorta itself adjusted its stiffness to the rapid hemodynamic changes.
