Abstract

Abstract: The magnetization configurations of axially symmetric domain walls (DW) confined in ferromagnetic nanotubes with tube outer radius R of 50–150 nm and tube aspect ratio L / R (length/radius) in the range of 2.5 to 15 are found by micromagnetic simulations. Though a uniaxial magnetic anisotropy with 'easy axis' parallel to the tube axis is assumed, the structure of the DW located at the middle of the nanotube is characterized by the magnetization rotating from one circular sense to another within the DW width to separate two vortex-like domains with magnetizations circling in opposite directions, and the width of the confined DW depends sensitively on nanotube sizes specified by the tube length L, radius R and thickness A quantitative relationship of the DW width with nanotube material as well as geometric parameters is established by minimizing the total magnetic energy of the nanotube. The obtained results offer a way to design the domain wall width by controlling the nanotube geometric parameters.
