- Abstract: This paper presents a numerical modeling of a circular submerged offset jet in a rectangular stormwater pond and investigates various design parameters (inlet offset position, tailwater depth, bottom roughness, and basin width and length) on jet velocity decay and energy dissipation. Results from the numerical model suggest that the energy dissipation increases with a deeper pond tailwater depth, and decreases with offset height when the offset height is less than half of the tailwater depth. Additionally, the basin width and pond length will affect the velocity decay rate and energy dissipation. Riprap installed at the pond bottom has little influence on energy dissipation in the studied cases. Findings from this study can be useful in pond design for bottom erosion protection and improved energy dissipation.
