Abstract

Abstract : The design delivers the highlight of our review— using Pichia pastoris as whole‐cell catalyst for chemical production, exemplified by the oxidation of lactate. Lactate is diffused into the peroxisome and oxidized into pyruvate and H2 O2 by the 2‐hydroxyacid oxidase. The co‐localized catalase removes accumulated H2 O2 and regenerates O2 for further reaction. We adopted the pencil sketch effect for the EM picture of a budding yeast, and used it as background. The grey shadow in the background represents the peroxisomes where the enzymes reside.
