- Abstract : This new study is a continuation of the authors' previous work on thermocleavable non-isocyanate polyurethanes (Nipus). This approach proposes to reduce environmental impacts of binders by both avoiding the use of harmful isocyanates and allowing an easy debonding of materials. A bisfuranic hydroxyurethane monomer was synthesised and polymerised with a poly(propylene oxide)-bismaleimide in order to yield a Nipu. First, the reactivity of furfuryl cyclocarbonate ether (FCE) towards primary amine was investigated, and the reaction product was characterised using proton nuclear magnetic resonance. Then, a bisfuranic hydroxyurethane monomer was synthesised by reaction between FCE and ethylenedioxy(bis(ethylamine)) in bulk, to full conversion. The thermal behaviour of this monomer was studied by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The bisfuranic monomer was then polymerised by Diels–Alder polyaddition with a bismaleimide oligomer. The thermal behaviour of the synthesised polymer was fully characterised by three complementary analyses.
