Cylindrical fixed-bed of the composite served as the emissions control device. PM emission is measured in terms of exhaust opacity with and without the composite. Opacity difference is the PM reduction and is statistically significant. Composite exhibits high thermal stability. Abstract: This study focuses on the fabrication of a composite material and its ability to reduce particulate matter (PM) emissions from vehicles with diesel engine. The material is composed of a natural zeolite with the inclusion of gypsum as a binder to make the resulting composite more compact. Results revealed that the material showed a very promising performance in reducing PM emissions, such that, this decrease was found to be precisely significant when verified statistically. Combined with an excellent thermal stability, the gypsum-reinforced zeolite material offers usefulness in industrial applications particularly in pollution abatement.
