- Abstract: This study investigates the effect of 10 wt% Mo alloying of NiCrBSi hardfacing on the microstructure and dry sliding wear performance at room temperature and elevated temperatures up to 700 °C. Mo additions refined the boride and carbide phases in the microstructure and formed a Mo-rich boro-carbide along with a 20% drop in its hardness. It further improved the wear resistance at all tested temperatures due to the formation of Mo oxides on the worn surfaces. Graphical abstract: Highlights: Mo alters the microstructure and hardness of NiCrBSi hardfacing. RT and HT Wear resistance increased with 10 wt% Mo addition. Tribo-oxide formation on the worn surface became more dominate at HTs. Participation of Mo-oxide in tribo-oxide caused better wear resistance at HTs.
