Abstract

Abstract : Mid‐infrared imaging spectroscopy was used to map chemical functional groups from their emissivity, rather than reflectance, spectra. In their Communication onpage 7341 ff., ), J. K. Delaney et al. reflected a cold thermal source, instead of ambient air from the warm room, off the painting to obtain mid‐IR image cubes dominated by the emitted radiance. Sufficient signal was collected without having to heat the artwork, and pigments and paint binders were identified and mapped.
