- Abstract: X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy has been extensively used to characterize the cobalt complexes derived from different Schiff ligands in powder form. We report the observations on three samples including the pure Co metal foil (standard material for reference), Co complex synthesized with C11 H10 N2 O3 (Alanine based Schiff base, abbreviated as L 1 ) and Co complex synthesized with C13 H14 N2 O3 (Valine based Schiff base, abbreviated as L 2 ). Both Co complexes studied here are 1: 2 electrolytes in nature. The X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES region) along with their extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) have been recorded using Energy Scanning XAFS beam line(BL-9) installed at Indus-2 synchrotron source (2.5 GeV, 200mA) at RRCAT, Indore, India. XANES and EXAFS have been utilized to obtain the average near neighbour distances in the samples and chemical shifts. The observed results suggest the possibility of utilizing these materials for further investigations towards checking the applicability in biological devices.
