- Abstract : A study is presented of the properties of surface plasmons in a molybdenum disulfide (MoS2 )–silver (Ag) system formed by molybdenum disulfide and silver plates with a periodically arrayed small silver slices on them. The propagation properties of an electromagnetic wave moving in the system are solved in the framework of the finite-difference time-domain method. The intensity of the electric vector E in the system is closely related with the position and the width of the silver slices. It enhanced almost two times when single or double rows of the small silver slices are located in the system. The enlarged intensity indicates that the surface plasmons are excited in the system, resulting from the collective oscillation of electrons in the silver plates and slices under the stronger interaction between the electromagnetic wave and electrons. Moreover, the intensity increased about three times when the width of the silver slices is doubled. The enhanced vibration induced by the surface plasmons in the molybdenum disulfide–silver system has significant potential applications in high-efficiency solar cells, detectors and other optoelectronic devices.
