- Abstract : In this study, the explosion parameters of stoichiometric methane–air diluted with nitrogen (N2 )/carbon dioxide (CO2 ) blends, that is, maximum explosion pressure ( P max ), laminar burning velocity ( S L ), and activation temperature ( T a ), were investigated in a closed cylinder vessel. The concentrations of the dilution blends were 10% and 20%. The explosion pressure history was recorded by a pressure transducer. The results indicated that the dilution effect of CO2 is more sensitive than that of N2 . For a given dilution concentration, both the maximum explosion pressure and the laminar burning velocity decrease with the increase of CO2 . In addition, the activation temperature is higher for increased CO2 blends, demonstrating again that the diluent influence of CO2 is more prominent. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Process Saf Prog 38: e12015, 2019
