Abstract

Abstract: The Mecca Clock Tower is not only an extraordinary construction project because of the extreme size and complexity of the structure—it is also a very special building because of its overall design process. When the tower was already under construction, the building height was significantly extended and the building layout of the upper part was completely modified and further developed, an effort that could not have been accomplished without the dedicated collaboration of all of the project participants. This paper gives an overview of the building, various structural design topics and several related construction issues.
