- Abstract: Epoxy resins (EP) and unsaturated polyester resin (UP) were prepared as hybrid composite by (50:50%) percentage, it was reinforced by a (PbO) ceramic powder, once with a micro particle size with (5, 10, 15, 20, 30) wt.%, and again with Nano particle size with (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) wt.%, The attenuation coefficient was measured as a function of concentration and thickness, the liner and mass attenuation coefficient and the buildup factor were calculated, Measurements were performed by use two radioactive sources, the first ( 137 CS) with energy of (0.662Mev) and the second was ( 60 CO) with energy of (1.173 and 1.332Mev), the measurement were done using (osbrey system NaI (Tl) detector 3"* 3"), then (30)% of micro particle size and (5)% of Nano particle size of (PbO) composites were selected as the best attenuation of gamma ray and the best mechanical properties of formation, also The attenuation was studied for different thickness of (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2)cm for composites with (30)% micro reinforcement and (5)% Nano reinforcement, as well as mechanical tests performed to the prepared samples, Manufactured shields exhibit suitable attenuation and mechanical properties.
