Abstract

Abstract : Orchestration of seed development relies on the compartmentalization of biological processes in space and time. The elegance of the seed lies in the communication between the seed coat, endosperm, and embryo regions, each of different ontogenetic origin. In this issue, Ziegler et al. (639–650 ) provide evidence into the spatial partitioning of gene activity in Brassica napus using laser microdissection and next generation RNA sequencing revealing tissue and cell‐specific biological processes underpinning seed development.
