Abstract

Abstract Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) offers a promising new approach to HIV prevention. It is protective against HIV infection across populations and has few significant safety risks and little evidence of behavioural risk compensation. This article summarises the evidence behind HIV PrEP as an intervention, populations that may benefit, current guidelines and programmes, and the cost-effectiveness modelling of this strategy.
