Abstract

Abstract : This paper analyzes the relationships between dance and nature, as seen in the studies by Isadora Duncan and Anna Halprin, as well as some of Pina Bausch's choreographies, such as Água, inspired in Brazil. The authors also take into consideration the example of the project Arte Praia ('Art at the Beach'), created by the artistic foundation Casa da Ribeira and located in the city of Natal, with funding from the Ministry of Brazilian Culture and private companies and the collaboration of artists in the city. From these examples and stories told in person by dancers, the notion of 'eco choreography' is presented as part of Merleau-Ponty's philosophy, especially with regard to the relationships between the body and nature, as well as body ecology and emersiology.
