Abstract

Abstract: This study examined whether specific combat experiences and trauma-related beliefs were differentially related to anger among 869 treatment-seeking veterans. Total combat and specific types of combat exposure associations with anger were moderated by negative beliefs about the world such that those in the highest combat exposure group were significantly more likely to describe chronic anger in the context of negative world beliefs. A main effect between self-blame and trait anger was also observed in some models. Results suggest that specific types of posttraumatic cognitions play a role in the relationship between combat and anger. Clinical implications are discussed.
