- Abstract: One-dimensional nanostructured TiO2 as the photo-anode in the solar cell has been attracted much attention. However, the novel TiO2 arrays still have two disadvantages of low visible light response and high electron-hole recombination. Desensitization of TiO2 arrays by narrow energy band gap material Bi2 S3 is an effective way to broaden optical absorption range and inhibit carrier recombination. The Bi2 S3 material was deposited on TiO2 columnar arrays substrate with the simple hydrothermal method. The number of Bi2 S2 material deposition cycles show important effect on the TiO2 /Bi2 S3 composite materials performance. The morphologies, microstructures, optical and electrical properties of the pure TiO2 arrays and TiO2 /Bi2 S3 composite thin films were characterized in detail. The visible light photocurrent density of TiO2 /Bi2 S3 composite film presents first increase then decrease change tendency with the Bi2 S3 deposition cycles number increase. When the Bi2 S3 materials deposition 2 cycles, the TiO2 /Bi2 S3 composite films showed the best optical and electrical properties. The visible light photocurrent density of TiO2 /Bi2 S3 (2) was 0.22 mA cm −2, the electron life time is 61 ms, the flat band was −0.65 V.
