- Abstract: Fiber-reinforced composite sandwich structures are widely used in many fields. The connection between the sandwich structures is the key to restrict the performance of sandwich structures. In this paper, a new type of L-joint was proposed. The load-bearing characteristics and failure modes of the structure were analyzed by experiment and finite element method. The failure modes of L-joint are fiber failure of stiffener corner and cracking of the foam at the core. The average ultimate load value of L-joint is 2.47 kN. The simulation results agree well with the experimental results, and the error is 21.1%. After improving the design of the L-joint, the stiffness is significantly improved. In addition, the bending stiffness value of new L-joint can increase by 38.6% compared with old L-joint. The results of this study can offer guidance for the structural design of new L-joint.
