- Graphical abstract: Image 1 Highlights: A forest soil with high levels of naturally occurring Ag was investigated. Silver was originally bound to sulfosalt minerals residing in the soil parent rock. Silver partitioning in soil is largely dominated by the residual silicate fraction. Available Ag pools for leaching to groundwater are virtually negligible. Soil has a high adaptive capacity to retain significant inputs of geogenic Ag.
