- Graphical abstract: Five diiron ethanedithiolate complexes [Fe2 (CO)5 (L){μ-SCH2 CH(CH2 O2 CCH3 )S}] (L = P(2-C4 H3 O)3, 2 ; P(2-C4 H3 S)3, 3 ; P(4-C6 H4 F)3, 4 ; P(4-C6 H4 Cl)3, 5 ; Ph2 PC6 H11, 6 ) containing acetate ester and phosphine ligands were prepared by CO substitution. The complexes2 –6 have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectra, as well as by X-ray crystallography. Moreover, the electrochemical properties were also studied. Abstract: A series of acetate ester containing diiron ethanedithiolate complexes have been synthesized and structurally characterized. CO substitution of complex [Fe2 (CO)6 {μ-SCH2 CH(CH2 O2 CCH3 )S}] (1 ) with the phosphine ligands tris(2-furyl)phosphine, tris(2-thienyl)phosphine, tris(4-fluorophenyl)phosphine, tris(4-chlorophenyl)phosphine, or cyclohexyldiphenylphosphine in the presence of the decarbonylating agent Me3 NO·2H2 O gave the phosphine-substituted diiron derivatives [Fe2 (CO)5 (L){μ-SCH2 CH(CH2 O2 CCH3 )S}] (L = P(2-C4 H3 O)3, 2 ; P(2-C4 H3 S)3, 3 ; P(4-C6 H4 F)3, 4 ; P(4-C6 H4 Cl)3, 5 ; Ph2 PC6 H11, 6 ) in 86–95% yields. The complexes2 –6 have been characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. Additionally, the electrochemical properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry.
