- Abstract: In this study, a large negative piezocaloric effect (maximum Δ T ∼ −2 K) is reported for a bulk Pb(Zr0.52 Ti0.48 )O3 material using a Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire (LGD) phenomenological approach. An uniaxial stress induced structural phase transitions (tetragonalT 1 to tetragonalT 2 and monoclinicM to tetragonalT 2) play a very key role in developing a giant negative caloric effect that is crucial for the enhancement of cooling efficiency. Highlights: A large negative PiCE appears near tetragonalT 1-tetragonalT 2 phase transition for initialT 1 phase. Another peak value of negative PiCE appears at monoclinicM -tetragonalT 2 phase transitions for initialR phase. The critical point betweenT 1 andT 2 can be tuned toward room temperature by the appropriate uniaxial compressive stress.
