- Abstract: This study sets up an automatic design optimization procedure for SWATH, which integrates computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, geometrical modification and optimization algorithm. A high-fidelity CFD solver based on Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations which has been proved giving accurate flow prediction, is integrated into the optimization module. The Response Surface Model (RSM) is built as a surrogate for computationally expensive numerical simulations to improve the efficiency of the optimization. The Multi-island Genetic Algorithm (MIGA) is applied to the optimization. A 2.7m SWATH test model has been taken as a verification model. The optimization result shows the effectiveness of the optimization and the advantage of the achieving hull forms that have lower resistance than the original hull.
