Abstract

Abstract : The metal–carbon bond plays a pivotal role in the structural stabilities and biological activities of metal-based anticancer drugs. The strong M–Cimi bond is first introduced into sandwich-type POMs [Na0.7 M5.3 (H2 O)2 (imi)2 (Himi)(SbW9 O33 )2 ] 6−, (M = Ni II (1 ), Co II (2 ), imi = imidazole). Abstract : Two novel sandwich-type polyoxometalates {Na0.7 M5.3 (H2 O)2 (imi)2 (Himi)(SbW9 O33 )2 } 6− (M = Ni II (1 ), Co II (2 ), imi = imidazole) containing a strong M–Cimi bond were synthesized by a tetragonal cluster [Na2 Sb8 W36 O132 (H2 O)4 ] 22− {Sb8 W36 } precursor. Compound1 was highly cytotoxic against gastric cancer cells by arresting the cell cycle in the S-phase and inducing cell apoptosis.
