- Abstract : A major new laboratory for construction innovation run by University College London opened this year at "Here East" in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London. Granted an exclusive tour, CRI correspondent Stephen Cousins describes the experimentation he witnessed, including a squad of airborne 3D-printing drones; a way of on-the-spot designing of structures with non-standard materials, even waste; a rig for testing building assemblies against extreme weather and seismic loads; and a method for strengthening sheet metal by embossing ridged patterns. Researchers hope industry will find it all useful somehow, but will it?
