- Abstract: The corrosion behavior of Ti62 Zr12 V13 Cu4 Be9 metallic glass matrix composites (MGMCs) in chloride-containing (NaCl and HCl) and chloride-free (NaOH and H2 SO4 ) solutions was studied. As a result, Ti62 Zr12 V13 Cu4 Be9 MGMCs exhibits better corrosion resistance in chloride-free solutions due to the formation of oxide layer. In comparison, the oxide layer formed in NaOH solution is superior to that formed in H2 SO4 solution according to the analysis results of XPS and EIS. The irregularity of elemental and phase distribution in this Ti-based MGMCs material is considered the driving force of the corrosion process. With the inclusion of other factors such as the different pH values and the cathodic reaction, rather reasonable interpretation about the difference of corrosion behaviors of Ti-based MGMCs samples in various media is proposed. Highlights: Ti62 Zr12 V13 Cu4 Be9 (at.%) metallic glass matrix composites (MGMCs) exhibit better corrosion resistance in H2 SO4 and NaOH solutions but rather poor corrosion resistance in NaCl and HCl solutions. The oxide layer formed in H2 SO4 and NaOH solutions show different structure, and composition. The different corrosion morphologies in NaCl and HCl solutions are mainly attributed to the different pH values.
