- The chlorpyrifos and lindane (γ-Hexachlorocyclohexane, HCH) are organophosphate and organochlorine insecticide extensively used for agricultural pest management. But, due to toxic effect of HCH on living system, the agricultural use of lindane has been banned but chlorpyrifos is still being used in agriculture. In the present study the CP and gamma-HCH bioremediation capability of three isolates were studied and it was observed that Sphingobium japonicum (MTCC-6362) shown higher degradation efficiency than HSR-B4, FWS-4 isolates in mixed culture in shake flask culture-based study. The temperature 30°C, pH 7, pesticide concentration 80 ppm, inoculums concentration 600 μl and shaking speed 150 rpm, respectively were found optimum conditions for degradation. The mixed culture degradation study by Sphingobium japonicum (MTCC-6362)+FWS-4+HSR-B4 7 and ten days shown 22% and 42% degradation, respectively. The Sphingobium japonicum (MTCC6362) has shown maximum degradation at 30°C, pH 7, 80 ppm, 600 μl inoculum concentration and at 150 rpm. The GC-MS was used for analysis of intermediate metabolites that was produced during the course of the pesticide degradation and it was found that the similar degradation intermediates detected as observed for the same compound in other similar study.
