- Abstract: Steady state multiplicities can occur in hydrated Nafion membranes of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells. In this phenomenon, the current-potential curves cell exhibit under certain conditions steady state multiplicity, i.e. for a fixed current value, there are two corresponding cell potential values and thus the current versus potential curve exhibits a local current maximum. In this work, steady state multiplicities have been studied varying basic operating parameters of the PEMFC such as temperature and extend of hydration of the membrane and by poisoning the anode via CO supply. In every case there was a comparison between the experimental data and the γ-model developed in our previous studies.
