Abstract

Wind turbines present a series of failures that tend to decrease its life cycle. Considering the enormous potential and wind capacity already installed in Brazil, it is vital to establish a viable route to deal with the main problems affecting such equipments. Since the main issues on such devices seem to be correlated to materials properties, such as resistance to corrosion, this paper aims the evaluation of physical-chemical surface mechanisms on such deterioration. The methodology used is case study and carried out measurements in two regions in Brazil; moreover, the evaluation was based on laboratorial and in situ analysis. The main defects and their consequences were listed; evaluated and main control forms were then catalogued. It was established that solution most probably would depend on physical-chemical surface mechanisms. Therefore, the best possible alternatives for waste reduction make use of common microelectronics technologies.
