Abstract

Abstract : Born in Paris and brought up in Abidjan, today Véronique Tadjo is one of the most influential and versatile contemporary female authors writing in French. This interview focuses on Tadjo's latest text, En compagnie des hommes, published in 2017 by Don Quichotte Éditions. Tadjo adopts a poetic approach to narrate the traumatic physical and psychological consequences of the Ebola epidemic which struck West Africa between 2014 and 2016. Discussion of this novel with Tadjo leads to a broader debate concerning the key issues faced by Francophone African communities today and reveals the long-term political engagement which spans the author's creative work.
