Abstract

Highlights: This is a reflection about a memorable patient I met during my Medicine Clerkship. It highlights the importance of being in the present moment in human interactions. I have changed the name/personal information of the patient to protect his privacy. Abstract: This reflective piece tells the story of an impactful patient interaction that shaped the practice of a medical student. The essay focuses on the power of shared time and the development of meaningful relationships as a form of adjunctive therapy for patients, regardless of diagnosis or prognosis. Fostering an appreciation for the present moment and savoring glimpses of human interaction are other themes that are touched upon in this piece.
