Abstract

The RC structures built with no specific anti-seismic codes represent an important percentage of the current building RC stock in European southern regions. Most of these buildings present irregularities more or less marked and it could represent one of the most dangerous categories from a seismic point of view. Within this context, the present work is developed with the aims to evaluate the seismic behaviour and to identify a possible brittle mechanism of two RC buildings which are part of the largest buildings typology in southern Europe. Both structures have irregularities, in plan and in elevation. The numerical modelling was carried out and dynamic and nonlinear static analyses were performed. The results are shown in terms of shear and drift profiles, drift vulnerability curves, plans of curvatures, moment-curvature diagrams, comparison between incremental dynamic analyses and pushover analyses, and a comparison between limit drifts included in codes and guidelines.
