Abstract

This paper presents possibilities for decreasing mass flow in a district heating system equipped with the substations for residential buildings. Heat production is a significant part of the economy in many countries throughout Europe, USA and Asia. The heating plants use fossil fuels and are therefore sources of air pollution. The air pollutants are transferred long distances between countries and continents. In district heating systems, there are two operational variables to be optimised. The first is the decreased mass flow of the heating medium; the second is an operational forward temperature. The primary objective of this paper is to present possibilities for minimisation of mass flow in case of one-stage heating substation in contemporary district heating networks. On the basis of computer simulations, possibilities for decreasing electrical energy consumption in heating plants have been presented.
